A Surprise Proposal to Remember| Boise Engagement Photographer

There are some moments in life that are simply unforgettable, and Dustin and Sierra’s surprise proposal session was definitely one of them. As a Boise engagement photographer, I have the privilege of capturing some of life’s most meaningful milestones, and this one was extra special.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to photograph Sierra’s graduation portraits when she graduated from Boise State University. She was such a joy to work with, and I remember how exciting that season of life was for her. Fast forward a few years, and I received a message from Dustin—her now fiancé—asking if I would help him plan and photograph a surprise proposal. Of course, I immediately said yes!

One of the hardest parts of any surprise proposal is making sure the bride-to-be doesn’t suspect a thing. To keep the surprise under wraps, we planned what Sierra thought was simply a family photo session. We met up on a beautiful November afternoon, and I started capturing portraits of the family just as planned. Looking back, it’s so fun knowing what was about to happen while Sierra had absolutely no idea.

The weather could not have been more perfect. Even though it was November, the temperatures were mild, the sunshine was beautiful, and the fall colors were still in full bloom. The golden leaves created the most stunning backdrop for this unforgettable moment and made this Boise engagement session feel absolutely magical.

After capturing several family portraits, I quietly gave Dustin the signal that it was time. In an instant, he stepped forward and got down on one knee.

The look on Sierra’s face was priceless.

Shock quickly turned into excitement, and before long there were tears of joy. Honestly, I don’t think there was a dry eye among us. Watching Sierra realize what was happening and seeing the love between these two was incredibly emotional. These are the moments that remind me why I love being a Boise engagement photographer so much.

It was also such a gift to reconnect with Sierra after all these years. One of my favorite parts of this job is getting to walk alongside people through different seasons of life. From photographing her Boise State graduation portraits to capturing the moment she said “yes” to the love of her life, it has been such an honor to tell a small part of her story.

Dustin planned every detail perfectly, and the love these two share was evident throughout the entire session. After the proposal, we spent some time capturing newly engaged portraits while they soaked in the excitement of the moment. Their joy was contagious, and you could feel the anticipation for all the adventures that lie ahead.

Congratulations, Dustin and Sierra! Thank you for allowing me to capture such an important chapter in your story. I am so excited to see where life takes you both and cannot wait to watch this next adventure unfold.
