Zach & Syvlia’s Family Session at the Old Idaho Penitentiary| Boise Family Photographer
There are some families that become so much more than clients, and Zach and Sylvia are one of those families. Their recent family session at the Old Idaho Penitentiary was such a special one for me, not only because of the beautiful location and golden evening light, but because I have had the privilege of documenting so many milestones in their lives.
As a Boise family photographer, one of the greatest gifts of my job is getting to watch families grow. It honestly feels like yesterday that Sylvia told me she was pregnant with little Renford. I still remember the excitement in her voice and the joy surrounding that season of anticipation. Fast forward to today, and somehow that sweet baby has already celebrated his first birthday!
Watching Renford explore the historic grounds of the Old Idaho Penitentiary was such a reminder of how quickly time passes. One-year-olds have a way of bringing energy and wonder to every session. Renford’s curious personality, sweet smiles, and love for being with his mom and dad made this session absolutely unforgettable.
What makes this family especially meaningful to me is that Sylvia was originally my hairstylist before becoming a dear friend. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to sit in her chair, share conversations about life, and watch her transition into motherhood. It has been such a joy to see her embrace this role with grace, patience, and so much love. She is an incredible mom, and seeing the bond she shares with Renford is truly heartwarming.
Zach and Sylvia make parenting look effortless. Their love for each other creates such a beautiful foundation for their family, and it shines through in every photograph. Whether they were laughing together, chasing Renford around, or simply soaking in the moment, their connection was evident.
The Old Idaho Penitentiary is one of my favorite locations for family photography in Boise. The unique architecture, textured stone walls, and open spaces create the perfect backdrop while still allowing families to be the focus of every image. It offers a timeless setting that photographs beautifully in every season.
Sessions like this remind me exactly why I love what I do. Being a Boise family photographer is about so much more than taking pictures. It’s about preserving memories that families will treasure for generations. It’s about documenting the tiny details that change so quickly—the chubby toddler hands, the laughter, the way a child reaches for their parents, and the love that grows deeper with each passing year.
Zach and Sylvia, thank you for allowing me to continue documenting your story. It has been such an honor to watch your family grow and to capture these precious moments along the way. Seeing Renford turn one is a reminder of how quickly life moves, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to freeze these memories in time.
